Nap Time
As required by the State of New Hampshire, children who attend five or more hours a day are given a rest period of a minimum of one hour on their mats. The children are transitioned to rest time after lunch. Children who do not fall asleep are given quiet activities to do until the rest period is over. Each child is given his/her own mat to be used for the school year. Parents are asked to supply a crib-sized fitted sheet and a blanket of adequate size for covering and cuddling the child (Fleece is very cozy). A low pillow or soft toy for a sleep companion is welcome provided it aids in sleep and is not a distraction. The sheet and blanket will be sent home each week for laundering. Older children, including Kindergartners who arrive at lunch time, are given a quiet rest period during which they may sleep, rest or do quiet activities on their blankets. Depending upon their needs, Kindergartners may have quiet playtime at the tables. For our Kindergarten and Pre-K children, we encourage the use of "Busy Bags" brought from home that contain materials such as stickers, coloring or activity books, small games and jigsaw puzzles that are quietly engaging during rest time.
